// Ernest Ranglin

Born in 1932, virtuoso guitarist Ernest Ranglin is one of the godfathers of Jamaican music. A key session player at Treasure Isle, Studio One and Federal Records (now Tuff Gong), he helped shape the sound of ska as it emerged in the 1950s and it’s Ranglin on guitar on Millie Small’s 1964 international ska smash ‘My Boy Lollipop’. He has toured and recorded with many artists, including the Skatalites, Prince Buster, The Wailers and Jimmy Cliff and was awarded the Order of Distinction by the Jamaican Government in 1973. Ranglin’s long association with Chris Blackwell saw several solo releases on Island Records and Palm Pictures. At 77 years old this hugely respected artist is still taking on new projects and collaborations.
